Victoria University of Wellington opened as Victoria College in 1897 and has since grown to become a large university committed to global and industry engagement. International students have a significant presence on campus, with a population of around 3000 students from more than 100 countries. The university is known for the quality of its research, ranking highly in areas such as chemistry; communications, journalism and media studies; ecology, evolution and behaviour; political science, international relations and public policy; and Maori knowledge and development.

Victoria University is situated in New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington. The main campus and administration centre is in Kelburn, just a couple of kilometres from Wellington city. The Kelburn campus is home to the facilities such as the central library and provides humanities and social sciences, science and engineering courses. The Pipitea campus is the site for the university’s law and business courses and is set in the heart of Wellington’s legal, government and business district. The Karori campus is a spacious campus and home to the Faculty of Education, offering undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education and professional development programmes. Te Aro, known as the Cuba Quarter campus, is the hub for architecture and design courses.
