Harstad University College (HiH), situated north of the Arctic Circle, has approximately 1400 students and 130 employees. The institution was established in 1983 and offers a friendly and initimate atmosphere. There are two departments: Business Administration and Social Sciences and Health and Social Work. Internationalization is incorporated into the strategies and action plans at all levels of the institution. Mobility among students and staff is important and we take active part in the Socrates, Nordplus, Barentsplus and High North exchange programmes. HiH has also signed a number of bilateral agreements with institutions in North America, Australia and Africa. Our modern facilities were completed in 1997 and accommodate most of the activities under one roof, centrally and beautifully located close to the city centre and the harbour. All our students are automatically registered as members of the student welfare organization, SiHa, which provides accomodation and other services to make students' day-to-day life easier. Harstad is a modern city of 23 000 inhabitants. It is characterized by a pleasant coastal climate, ideally situated on a picturesque island surrounded by mountains and sea. The city hosts a variety of industries in agriculture, fisheries, oil exploration, trade and retail in addition to travel and tourism.
