Watiyawanu School is located 325km west of Alice Springs in the community of Mt Liebig (also known as Amunturrngu or Watiyawanu) on the Haasts Bluff Aboriginal Land Trust. The population of the surrounding community is approximately 250 with a mixture of Luritja, Pintubi, Warlpiri, Aranda and Pitjantjatjara people. The community can be accessed via road; during wet weather the road can become impassable. The community can also be accessed via air through air charter services only.

Watiyawanu School is part of the Tanami Group School and provides education services to students from early years to middle years.
